Because of supply and demand, real estate prices in Costa Rica are escalating. You have to know where to look, but it is possible for you to still find valuable property at a reasonable price. The appeal and popularity of Costa Rica is accredited to the lifestyle, government and natural beauty. There are a few things you should keep in mind when looking to invest in real estate in Costa Rica.
It is very important to know the value of the property in which you are planning to purchase. Do not think that just because a real estate agent speaks your native language that they are to be trusted, this is a common misconception. Do not accept a verbal contract; demand that everything concerning the purchase of the property is properly put in writing.
There are areas of rainforest in Costa Rica, be sure that the property you intend to purchase does not fall into an area of restricted usage.
Before making your final purchase, if you are buying an area of land that is raw, you will need to hire an engineer and get a sample of the soil. If you plan to purchase land in a remote area, be sure to check for access to water and electricity.
Finally yet importantly, check out the neighborhood. Talk to the people in the region to get a feeling for where your property is located. Get to know the people in the community, check statistics such as crime rate. Once you have all of the information you need and have decided that Costa Rica is the place for you, sign the papers and you are on your way.
